MY FAVORITE STEEL WATCH

Marina B watches

A year or so ago I decided I wanted a stainless steel watch and I didn't want to pay a fortune.  Miracle of miracles I was offered these watches from Marina B in a closeout and I bought eight with Gus screeching all the way.  I got six with the peach/copper/apricot face and the rest in dark dark navy.  They originally retailed from Marina B in Europe for about $5900.  I wore mine a lot, people loved it and we quickly sold out and bought again and again.  We only have two left and it is really finished now.  The watch is unisex and we have sold to women and men.  Movement is quartz.  Wrist size can be adjusted.

DAVID WEBB PIECES

David Webb brooch and earrings

We recently bought an estate brimming over with David Webb pieces.  Here are two of his brooches we particularly like.  I am always asked for daytime pearl brooches and I have to confess that I don’t buy many as most of them are “old lady.”  This, however, is an exception...very tailored, with a mabe pearl in a gold cornucopia.  18B720

The dragon is more whimsical but still easy to wear and makes a statement without lots of stones.  It is black enamel on gold, with a ruby eye.  Classic David Webb.   18B719

SEAMAN SCHEPPS EARRINGS

Schepps earrings

We recently bought an old pair of the Seaman Scheppes shell earrings in 14 karat gold with turquoise ends.  These are always in demand.  18E726

LALAOUNIS EARRINGS

Lalaounis earrings

In the same estate were these sexy Lalaounis dangles in 22 karat gold, with a bird design in granulation.   18E725

These are our list prices and where we can do better, we will.

MISCELLANEOUS

Whenever I try a new mascara, I always wonder why I waste my time, when I inevitably go back to Lancôme, in one of its many versions...but you have to listen to the young ones and when I mentioned this to Sochi, she informed me that she too felt Lancôme was the best until she discovered BADGal mascara from Benefit, available at Sephora.  While we both continue to like Lancôme in its myriad versions, we have officially declared BADGal our number one.

I went to a restaurant/shop last night that had interested me for a while.  Fig & Olive (212.207.4555) located at 808 Lexington Avenue between 62nd and 63rd Street, has a very good Mediterranean menu, with dishes all using olive oil.  They sell a variety of olive oils, many infused with delicious flavors and at dinner they give you three samples to try.  The food is not too expensive, especially at lunch.  This place has caught on and it gets a very attractive crowd and you must make reservations at night.  Warning - it can be very noisy.

Great news.  If you didn't make it to the theatre to see Water, you can now rent it from Netflix.  Noel just discovered it is available and has already rented it and I am in the queue as I want Jean to see it.

Now, don’t scream with laughter.  You’re getting a recipe from me.  I spent a weekend in August in the mountains of North Carolina at the lovely home of Winnie Noffsinger and she served this appetizer.  I have taken the liberty of substituting olive oil for vegetable oil, to make our nutrition guru happy.  It is absolutely delicious!

½-1 lb cooked jumbo shrimp
1-2 onions thinly sliced
celery tops

5 or 6 bay leaves
2 tsp salt
* ¼ cup McCormick’s pickling spice
1 ¼ cups olive oil
¾ cup vinegar
Dash of Tabasco

* Key ingredient.
Marinate and serve.

Book flash.  Somehow I had never read John Harvey.  Just finished the Frank Elder series and am starting on Charlie Resnick.  I'd recommend Charlie, then Frank, as that is the way they were written.  These are terrific British "copper" novels.
